Since our last edition, I’ve maintained the integrity of my food plan boundaries, I’ve remained refined sugar-free, I’ve met or exceeded my daily water goal, and I’ve stayed well connected with exceptional support.

The weekend was a good one, capped off with a good Sunday afternoon spent with my grandson, Noah. We attended the live production of Frozen Jr., made a trip to the store, and enjoyed lunch together. When I’m with him, my other grandkids, and my daughters–any time, it serves as a beautiful reminder of why it’s important to take care of me with this daily practice of things.

Every now and then, in person, or via email, message, or social media–someone will say something like, “you’re so strong,” or “I wish I had your will power,” or “you’ve got it figured out.” All of those perceptions are wrong.

Every time I’ve tried to be strong, exert will power, or “figure it out,” I failed horribly. If what I do is put within the frame of a diet mentality, this illusion of strength and will power–and my denial of that strength and will power, doesn’t make sense.

If what I do is put into the frame of a one day at a time practice in recovery, then it makes complete sense. It isn’t perfect and I’m doing work each day to make it better. But, here’s the deal:

Reaching a point of surrender with my disease of food addiction/compulsive overeating was a powerful moment where suddenly my progress no longer needed my futile and insane attempts of control or vast amounts of will power. I liken it to standing in front of a doctor who’s diagnosing me with a disease–and he or she says, “yes, if left untreated it’s deadly, but it’s treatable. It can be managed and cared for and you can have an excellent quality of life.”

My course of treatment is this daily practice of things that I hope and pray I never stop doing. It’s like taking my “medicine.” In this, it isn’t about being strong or knowing anything–it’s about taking the medicine. It’s not what I know, it’s what I do.

I have a plan practice of pillars or “rails of support” that help me through each day.

My morning foundational routine is complete, my food is planned and ready for today, and I will stay connected with good support. I’m hoping for a fantastic Monday. I hope yours is too!

Do you own an “I’m Choosing Change” wristband? I wear mine daily as a constant reminder of why my daily practice of things is important. I’m not alone, either. This powerful message is worn on the wrists of people in a dozen states, maybe more, I haven’t counted–but it’s up there!! From New York to California and from Canada all the way to Scotland, they’re out there! For me, it’s simply a daily reminder to be open, willing, mindful, to pause, and to be intentional. If I’m not those things, I get stuck at the line of least resistance and back there is where the old patterns and behaviors thrive. Your order includes priority shipping so you’ll get it quickly! Here’s the link to order yours right now: https://imchoosingchange.com/product/wristband/
